An update from the IW Car Club today (6th July 2026) announced that the 2026 Sandown Sprint has been postponed, but with a new date confirmed for 2027.
The Sandown Sprint name has been dropped in favour of ‘IOW Sprint’ (or Isle of Wight Sprint 2027) and it will be held over the weekend of 17th and 18th April 2027. It is expected that the event will continue to use the popular format and track layout that was established by the Sandown Sprint between 2022 and 2024.
The Organising Committee for the Isle of Wight Sprint commented: “The Isle of Wight Council has been supportive of our request for a post-Easter date. At present, the new weekend does not clash with any known event, and we hope the English weather will be on our side. Moving the event gives us the best opportunity to deliver an outstanding experience for competitors and spectators alike.
Working with new and valued sponsors, as well as a new events company, the sprint will be rebranded as the IOW Sprint. A new website, social media pages, and further announcements will follow in the coming weeks and months. The sprint will remain part of the usual championships, and we welcome other clubs to include it as a round in their speed championships. Championship coordinators can contact us at sprint@iowcc.co.uk to discuss the event. We kindly ask you to share this update with your clubs and championship contenders, and to promote the IOW Sprint wherever possible.
