Founder of the Sandown Sprint and event director for the past three years, Tim Addison, has handed the running of the Sandown Sprint over to the Isle of Wight Car Club for 2026.
“After three very successful Sandown Sprints, I’ve achieved most of what I’d set out to do. Foremost, to run a first-class motorsport event on closed public roads here on the Isle of Wight.
We’ve seen a catalogue of epic cars competing in Sandown along with some amazing drivers. Including a World Rally Champion in 2022 and BARC Speed Champion in 2024. To see Damien Bradley, who won our event in 2024, compete at this year’s Pike Peak International was outstanding. It’s been brilliant fun and I wish the Club every success in continuing to run the event again next year.
I’d like to thank my team here at Solent for all their help and support as well our amazing event production and contractor team led by Rachel and Paul. The Car Club of course for working with us as the MSUK race organising club and all the volunteers and marshals. Our title sponsor from the outset has been the Island Car Centre and Will Nicholls has been instrumental in helping to establish the Sprint as a serious event. Not least by setting the fastest time in 2022.
The Sandown Sprint could not have gone ahead without the support of the Isle of Wight Council and Island Roads. Sandown Town Council has been right behind the Sprint from the early planning stages. The Sprint takes place on a number of private sites, so I’d like to thank (from east to west) Yaverland Sailing Club, Yaverland Cafe, the Wildheart Sanctuary, the Grand Hotel, Browns Golf Course, ARC, Artecology, Dinosaur Isle, Sandam Gardens, The Bandstand and Sandown Bowls Club. Also, the residents of Sandown, especially those who live closest to the track and (despite our best efforts) were sometimes inconvenienced.
This website will stay online as an archive for the 2022, 2023 and 2024 Island Car Centre Sandown Sprints. I understand that the Club will want to do their own thing, which is only right. I’m looking forward to buying a ticket and watching next year.
Hopefully, Isle of Wight Speed Trials might develop new events in the future.”
