Getting to the Isle of Wight

Getting to the Isle of Wight is unexpectedly easy and it’s amazing how the short sea crossing can transport you to another world. Once you have travelled to Portsmouth, Southampton or Lymington in the New Forest, your short break to the Isle of Wight has practically started.

Crossing the Solent

Crossing the Solent is all part of the experience of travelling to the Isle of Wight. Fast passenger services from Portsmouth and Southampton can take less than 20 minutes, whilst car ferries can complete the journey in just 40 minutes. The Island also has the world’s only scheduled hovercraft service and the crossing to Ryde with Hovertraval takes just 10 minutes. As you leave the harbour the Island is already in view from deck.

There’s no easier or more relaxing way to start your UK holiday or short break than by experiencing the change in pace that the Isle of Wight is famous for.

Vehicle & passenger services

Car ferry services run from Portsmouth to Fishbourne, Southampton to East Cowes and Lymington to Yarmouth.
